Straight Talk CDMA Samsung Galaxy S738C Full Review

The Straight Talk Samsung S738C is a mid level CDMA Android device that is a slight upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy Discover (S735C). As with the Galaxy Discover, the S738c comes with Android 4.0 out of the box. This phone is the 3rd in the S7xxC series and is a slight upgrade from the 735 in that it has a slightly larger 4.0 screen and slightly better digital camera. Other than that, this is essentially the same phone except that it is slightly larger form factor..

Comments

The Samsung Galaxy S738C is basically the same phone as the Samsung Discover. The 738 is a slight upgrade in that it comes with a slightly larger 4.0" screen. Other than that, it is essentially the same device in that it comes with a 1.0ghz processor. You also get a slightly better camera with 5.0 mega pixels. As you would expect, the 738 is a slightly bigger phone since it comes with the larger screen. A quick look around the phone, we find a 4.0" screen, which is probably about the best overall size in a phone. Not too small a screen but not so large that you can't fit it in your pocket. The 738 comes with the now familiar 3 Android button configuration. There is no dedicated camera button on this phone which is also now becoming quite usual on these mid to entry level phones. Of course you get the capacitive touch Android buttons. All in all, not much new in terms of design as it follows the same layout and configuration as most others in this price range.

Features

The main feature here is the Android 4.0 OS. Good to see that Straight Talk is now ditching the Android 2.3 phones because the 4.0 phones perform a whole lot better even when specs are the same. To give you an example, a 2.3 1.0ghz phone performs just about the same as an 800 mhz 4.0 phone. Other than that, we find the usual Google play, Youtube, Google Maps, etc. Android 4.0 also gives you extra camera functionality in that it you get a few extra features to play around with after you have taken a picture.

Calling Area

The calling area for the Samsung Galaxy Discover is going to be CDMA. This means you will get either Verizon or Sprint. Our money is on Sprint as that is the most used on the Straight Talk CDMA phones these days . Check your calling area

Wrapping it Up

The Galaxy S738C brings familiar design and features in a 4.0" form factor. There's is nothing earth shattering here in that you get a very familiar yet competent phone. The phone performs great with the latest 4.0 OS so overall, this is an excellent phone that is worth taking a look at..
