Despite the similar name, these phones could not be any more different. While the Ascend Y is a decent entry level device, the Ascend Plus is more of a mid level device that does everything quite well. It comes with a 1ghz processor and Android 4.0 which is vastly superior to the Ascend Y's Android 2.3 and 800mhz processor. These phones are essentially night and day when it comes to performance. Additionally, the Ascend Plus comes to you with a 4" diagonal screen while the y comes with only a 3.0" screen. These 3 main differences, make the Ascend Plus a vastly superior phone but you will have to pay about 100 bucks more since the Ascend Y can be had for under $50 refurbished and the Plus is $149. I will say that the difference in money is well worth it on the Ascend Plus.

Camera, Dimensions, Screen Size and Weight

As mentioned above, the Ascend plus has the larger screen, as such it measures about 1/2" taller than the Ascend Y. Of course the Ascend Y has the 3.5" screen while the Plus has the 4" screen. Additionally, the weight difference between the two is about .75 ounces, with the Ascend Plus being the heavier phone as expected.  Finally, on the camera end of things, the Plus comes with a 5mp camera and a front facing camera while the Ascend Y only has the 3.2 mp main camera and no front facing camera.

Both of the Ascends are CDMA 3g phones..

Of course we see that the Ascend Y commands a $20 premium in price. This is more than likely because the Ascend Y is newer and has a faster processor. The trade off is the camera so you decide which is more important to you...

The conclusion here is that really, the 2 phones are quite similar.  The main difference between these is the faster processor on the Ascend Y and the better camera on the Ascend 2.  So if taking good pictures is important to you, then you should opt for the Ascend 2. Other than that, you are probably better off with the Ascend Y and it's faster processor.
